Spezzano della Sila is the vibrant heart of the Presila Cosentina. Its territory extends to reach Camigliatello Silano, Croce di Magara, Cupone, and other locations particularly known for mountain tourism, both in winter and summer.
The nature surrounding Spezzano can be fully appreciated from the large terrace extending from the historic center, facing the Perennial Fountains, which flow with pure and fresh water all day long.
The historic center is a destination for cultural and religious tourism due to the presence of numerous churches, including the 16th-century Church of San Pietro and the Church of San Biagio, the patron saint of the village.
The Sanctuary of San Francesco di Paola in Spezzano della Sila is the third convent built by the Saint, a place to which the residents of Spezzano and the entire population of Casali are particularly attached. The structure was remodeled several times due to earthquakes and fires that partially destroyed it. The interior, with a single nave, features Baroque details, while the wooden ceiling, divided into hexagonal panels, has an impressive depiction of the Saint at its center.
Near the altar, the bust of San Francesco di Paola draws the attention of the devout. This statue is carried in procession during the solemn celebrations for the saint, every third Sunday of September. The Sanctuary of Spezzano della Sila is one of the stops on the path of San Francesco di Paola.
Natural tourism also finds ample space in Spezzano thanks to the FAI Giganti della Sila Nature Reserve, about 30 km from the center, where over 60 trees, up to 45 meters tall, with trunks 2 meters wide and an extraordinary age of 350 years, reside. A truly ancient forest, accessible thanks to the contribution of the Italian Environmental Fund and visitable with the help of expert guides always present. A magical place where humans can only feel infinitely small.
